Into the blue hour
The van meets your flight at three. By four the sky is indigo and the lake glows under the snow. Sauna, supper, and your first watch from the bed.
Kaamos is a lodge of glass-roofed cabins above the Arctic Circle. A guide watches the sky all night and wakes you the moment it starts. You only have to look up.

Eight cabins on the east shore, forty metres apart, every one facing north over the ice. Heated floors, a small kitchen and blinds for the short grey days.
One pane of glass runs from the headboard to the door. The ice starts four steps from the bed.

Every Aurora Week runs Sunday to Friday or Wednesday to Monday. The days are short and slow on purpose: the nights are the programme.
The van meets your flight at three. By four the sky is indigo and the lake glows under the snow. Sauna, supper, and your first watch from the bed.
A slow two-hour climb to the hut above the tree line, soup on the stove, and the whole northern sky to yourselves if it clears.
Sleep in, then a morning run with the team next door before the light goes at two. Back by the fire in time for the early watch.
If the lake clouds over, the guide drives toward clear sky, sets your camera on a tripod and stays out for as long as you do.
The last evening at the lake sauna: in through the steam, out into the hole in the ice, and back to the bench while the sky decides.
Prices are per person for the whole stay, sharing a cabin. Half board, the guided watch every night, airport transfers and all the cold-weather gear are in.
Before the lake freezes the lights come twice, once overhead and once in the black water off the jetty. Mild nights, around zero.

Clouds happen, and the aurora has quiet nights. If you see nothing at all in five nights, your next Aurora Week is half price, in any season, for two years.
From around 0 °C in September to −30 °C on the stillest January nights. We lend insulated overalls, boots, mittens and hats in every size, so pack for an ordinary winter.
Yes. On the long-watch night the guide sets your phone or camera on a tripod and walks you through the night settings. Tripods are yours to borrow all week.
From six years old. Family Glass sleeps four, the husky morning takes children with an adult, and the lamp in the cabin can wake them too, if you want it to.
Fly into the regional airport on a Sunday or a Wednesday. Our van meets every arrival that day, and the drive across the fell takes forty minutes.
Not in the season. The aurora keeps its own hours, and one night gives it one chance. Three nights is the shortest stay we sell.
Tell us the season, the length of stay and who is coming. We reply within a day with what is free and hold it for a week while you book flights.
