Why we show up

A city is kept, not owned.

It is kept by whoever turns up on a Saturday with gloves on. We started in 2016 with nine neighbours and one stretch of beach. Today 2,100 of us keep 38 sites, one morning at a time, and nobody has ever been asked to pay or to pledge.

2016

Nine neighbours, one beach.

A Saturday on Ocean Beach that nobody planned to repeat. We repeated it the week after.

2019

The first street-tree crew.

The city handed us forty saplings and a map. All forty are still standing.

2025

38 sites, every Saturday.

Shoreline, street trees, school yards and gardens, kept by 2,100 volunteers.
