We work alongside 14 rural communities in northern Portugal to restore native forest and rebuild the one-room schools that anchor each village. Every €40 plants a cork oak and funds a day of teaching.
Each program is led by people from the community it serves. You can pick one when you give, or leave the allocation to our field team.
Ana and her four-person crew have been clearing invasive acacia from the slopes above Vinhais since 2021. This year they planted their 10,000th cork oak — and a schoolroom reopened in the village two kilometres downhill.
The school in Miranda do Douro reopened in September with twelve students — and one hour a week of Mirandese, the regional language. Teacher Filipa is paid, fed and housed by the campaign.
