Ten years ofshowing up, in order.

Six moments from a decade of neighbourhood work — each one built on the last. Our by-laws still fit on one page; the roster is still volunteers and one coordinator.

Founded in a kitchen

Ten volunteers, one shared drive, and the first grant application we submitted was turned down — quietly and without explanation.

First chapter opens

Fifty members, four working groups: seed bank, legal aid, canteen, evening schoolroom. The landlord knocked twelve hundred off the rent when he saw what we were doing.

One thousand meals a week

The community canteen begins serving year-round. Neighbourhood shops donate surplus every Friday; nobody goes home without leftovers for Saturday.

Rooftop nursery planted

Four rooftop gardens, two hundred eighty native saplings, every primary-school child on the block gets one tree they own and name.

Literacy programme launches

Adult evening classes begin; the first cohort of sixty-two finishes a full book together in twelve weeks. Twelve of them now teach the next cohort.

Decade in, still listening

The annual assembly rewrites the by-laws from scratch — by the members, for the members. Page count stays at one; the font gets smaller.
